The Birds and the Bees

I got a few of the Birds and the Bees prints from Tula Pink's latest line. I really love the color combos she has in this line! Either grouping would make a colorful, show stopper quilt. I love how her designs incorporate animal or people within the designs. You could really have a quilt on your lap and have fun discovering the hidden treasures~ young or old! In the second grouping, #7 called Bees Knees, I didn't notice until I received the fabric that are bees in the form of flowers. So clever! Can you imagine wearing a dress you made from that fabric and then someone noticing that hidden treasure! Sewing is even more fun! :) I got mine at Hawthorne Threads, but I have seen this line everywhere!!

Parisville Altered Tshirt

Well, in my quest to fancy up my everyday tshirts, I saw this 6 1/2 " leftover strip from Tula Pink's Parisville fabric called French Lace in pomegranite. I forgot to measure the length! I think it was apx 22". I ironed the strip in half, then brought the raw edges to the center as shown above & ironed the ends towards that side, too. Originally I tried to do a large stitch length 6 on my machine on both sides about 1/4" from the center to pull the threads to gather both sides. The usual happened~ both strings broke. I really detested gathering until I bought a gathering foot. So, I just went over those stitch lines again & voila! Why didn't I do that first? Well, I was afraid the machine gather wouldn't keep the sides straight, so if I do it again, I would do the same, but call the 6 stitch length a basting stitch to hold it in place. It came out a little longer, so I cut a little off & then attached the bottom end on the inside of the tee. I went back and pinned fairly often and in different directions & sewed down the center & 1/4" from that on both sides. How will it wash, you may ask? Don't know, hopefully well. When I get a creative moment, I just go for it. If it washes well, then I can make them for others, if not, thats the end!! It is now my official Valentine's shirt. :)

Ahhh Parisville!

This new line by Tula Pink has been highly anticipated in the blog world! We all got to drool over her amazing booth at Quilt Market. Some of those pictures are favorited on my flickr page. Her blog, http://tulapink.com/ shows how she drew the amazing Cameo print with the lady with a rat (or mouse??) on her head. Kinda funny! Print #4 above has small mice in the print as well. The Eyedropper print #3 has so many possibilities. I have it in 2 colorways, but will order the third the next time I buy fabric. I love the details she puts into every print. She is a true artist!!

Crib Bedding

Its that time of year when I get more requests for crib bedding. Its really fun to make and coordinate with different fabrics. This bumper is for Jessie. She picked out Tula Pink's Plume fabric line and this fabric is called Tailfeathers in mint. I purchased it at hawthorne threads, but Jona at Fabritopia also carries this line. The piping is Amy Butler's Park Fountains which will also be the crib skirt. I have decided not to sew any more fitted crib sheets as the width of the fabric can vary by an inch which sometimes makes the sheet too small. :( I have 2 more crib bedding orders to finish before June & I'm really excited about them. One is using the cute Alice Kennedy Owl fabric with Sandi Henderson's Farmers Market. The other is patchwork with Anna Maria Horner fabrics in blues & oranges based on her Sketchbook fabric in blue. Lots to sew, got to go! :)
