Plum Pretty Quilt

I have always loved every shade of purple, but going towards plum is just so lucious to me! I enjoyed every stitch of making this quilt for Jenni. I outlined the patches in a straight stitch and then free motion swirled the plum dot border which is Hoodie's Crosshatch dots in plum. Jenni ordered a whole crib set, so this is part of a bigger picture~ but it's a great start! I can't resist photographing my kids if they will let me with my quilts & I love how Holly looks with the backing of this one! Hope you are enjoying your Saturday!

My Purple Phase

Well, it all started with Anna Maria Horner's Small Gathering in plum, then Far Far Away (which I haven't cut into yet), then Glam Garden and then Sonoma by Franchelle Contreras. Ahhhh, I have always loved violet, lavender, plum etc. When my husband and I first married I decorated our room in violet and forest green. The duvet was from Pottery Barn and looked so much like the purple print on the bottom of the blanket with the roses~ complete with matching shams. I eventually changed that to Laura Ashley's Toile print in dark purple with a cream background. I made a whole cloth quilt with it, shams, etc. Then I changed over to red, wheat & olive, but am now missing my purple! I decided to make a baby size blanket from the leftover blocks from Nicole's blanket (on flickr) and found all sorts of pretty nooks in my yard despite the dirt piles, broken concrete, rebar, etc. floating around the back yard. I'm pretty sure the workers thought I was strange clothespinning this blanket to my apricot tree & sitting on a mound of tarped dirt to get this shot! Oh, what we do to capture the perfect picture! Have you ever gone to great lengths to photograph something???

Ooh La La Liberty!

I have the priviledge of working with a Liberty fabric for a patchwork/minky blanket for Kim! Its the fabric on the left. I had only heard of this fabric before, never worked with it. It IS $40/yd!! Kim is an accomplished sewer and fellow fabric lover and really wanted it for her daughters blanket, so she bought a half yard for it and had it shipped to my house. She also picked out all the fabrics except for 2 purples I am considering adding pending her approval. Looking at the pic, I like the woodgrain from Eva Basic Grey. It goes with the bird theme. Anna's flowers on the left looks good, but not great. Too many new colors. I think photos of fabric groups really help in decision making which is why I frequently post fabric groupings on my flickr site to help my customers decide on fabrics. Even if she doesn't want the woodgrain added, this blanket will be fabulous~ I'm looking forward to sewing it up and playing with the famous Liberty fabric!!

Beautiful Purples!

I am in love with these blanket tops! I couldn't wait to get a picture & send them to the future owners. My husband put up a new clothesline for me this weekend as the pergola doesn't get much sun in the winter. I just wish we had grass instead of cement. We have a smallish back yard and it is mostly pool. I was being careful not to fall in while taking the pictures!

Love Plum!

I have been collecting plum and purple fabrics to make a throw for my shop and when I got Amy Butler's new line, Love, I completed this. There is something about purple that just makes me happy. When my garden is in full bloom, most of the flowers are a shade of purple. I have a dark purple and lavender rose. There is the obvious lavender and mexican sage. When my red flame grapes are in season, the color is amazing. You can see my wintering grape vine in the photo as well. I will be listing this in my shop later today.

Thanks for visiting!
