Molly's Baby Quilt

This was a fun team effort by Molly & me. She contacted me to make a 40X46 random patch baby quilt using mostly Flights of Fancy fabrics. She scoured the internet finding fabrics that are hard to find~ like the Garden Trellis in green. Main fabrics also included Dandelion from Patty Young's Flora and Fauna line. I added a few fabrics that I had on hand and voila, this beauty was born! Hope her baby enjoys it for years to come!

Its really pretty, I am quilting my first quilt and used your spray basting tutorial -- worked great!!! I have largish blocks and I am just quilting around them. How large are the blocks on this quilt? I'm wondering if I need to quilt the centers of the 8" blocks, I've heard no spaces larger than 6". Would love your advice. Wendy <><

Hi Wendy!
Congrats on your first quilt!!Didn't see your email address, so will respond on my blog. I'm glad the spray baster worked for you. I just love it! I have heard that you don't want to leave more than a fist size area not quilted. I still will outline quilt an 8" square and it seems to do fine. You could double stitch it~ quilt around it twice maybe 1/4" from the first line, or do a decorative motif just in the 8" blocks. Sometimes I feel like free motion quilting is like scribbling over these amazing fabrics. I still do that, but like to highlight the prints. I also might outline a large flower with quilting as well. Hope that helps. My email is on my profile page if you want to email me. :)
